There is no current standard dosing for linseed. It comes in different forms as a seed, oil, capsules, or powder. The different manufactures will provide different doses depending on their product. It is recommended that you follow these guidelines. However, always talk to your doctor before introducing anything new to your diet.

Do not cook with this oil as it can form harmful chemicals when heated.

It can also be applied to the skin in oil form as a moisturizing agent or added to DIY personal care products. it is also added to numerous hair care products.

Potential Side Effects

Flaxseed oil is typically safe for many adults when taken orally and on a short term basis. Large doses can cause diarrhea and changes in the stool. Some people are also allergic to it, although this is uncommon.

A 2010 study, suggested ALA can increase the danger of prostatic adenocarcinoma or promote tumor growth. However, much of this research is speculative and it has been suggested by other researchers that flaxseed can benefit men’s prostate health.

ALA from animal-based foods high in saturated fats could be linked to prostatic adenocarcinoma. Even then, ALA might not be the culprit and other substances in those foods, like the hormones and pesticides in meat, might promote tumor growth.

Always consult your doctor if you have concerns about the consequences of linseed oil on your prostate before adding linseed oil to their diet.

      Natural products have so many personal benefits, much more than many mainstream alternatives which can actually lead to negative health effects.

      I do not play much cricket, but I know oil is effective for looking after wood. I use olive oil in a homemade wood polish and it keeps my wooden furniture in really good condition.

    Flaxseed oil certainly sounds worth it to have in your diet.
    I have not had this consistently in my diet but I look forward to trying this out.
    There are so many positive health benefits for consuming this oil but I was particularly interested in the reduction of inflammation possible with flaxseed oil.
    I regularly consume olive oil and thought it was one of the best for reducing inflammation in the body.

    Flax seeds are excellent for your health, I always make sure I have some (also chia seeds). I hadn’t thought of getting flax seed capsules, but they probably contain more benefits, I think. Should you just take one in the morning?

    Really pleased I came across this article as there are so many benefits to Flaxseed Oil Capsules, especially the weight loss and skin health. We are going through an obesity crisis in the UK at the moment, and the government is looking into putting a 12-week program together, but it’s taking forever.

    We must exercise and eat healthily, but I believe that using something like Flaxseed Oil Capsules could benefit even more. From what you have said, they produce protein so it would be good to take after exercising to help with recovery of muscles that are torn, etc.

      Yes, I had heard about this 12-week program that the UK is working on. I think something like that is a good start.
      Unfortunately, it is looking at the cure (which is needed) but they should also be looking at preventative measures too.
      People get obese because of poor food habits and there should be systems in place to help people with this.
      I had not thought of taking flax as an aid for exercising, what a fantastic idea!
