What is Flaxseed?

There are many benefits of flax seeds – including the provision of healthy fiber and proteins. Not only do they help in reducing your appetite but they also help in maintaining a healthy weight.

Similarly, you can use flaxseed oil capsules to get the most out of the beneficial plant. It is the easiest way to gain health benefits. Let us tell you about the benefits of consuming flaxseed oil capsules.

Health Benefits of Flaxseed Oil Capsules

Reduce Inflammation

Various research studies have emphasized the benefits of using flaxseed capsules and other forms in terms of reduced inflammation. It also reduces the C-reactive protein levels in your body.

C-reactive protein is a marker used for measuring inflammation in people with obesity. Some research studies have also indicated that the anti-inflammatory properties of flaxseed oil are equivalent to or better than olive oil.

Inflammation is often linked to pain, so by reducing inflammation it may too be possible to reduce pain.

Improve Skin Health

Flaxseed oil repair skin cells. It improves firmness, elasticity, texture, and tone of your skin. If you have dry skin, you can use flaxseed oil capsules to rehydrate your skin. Similarly, the essential fatty acids in it can cure itchy skin and other conditions by keeping it moist.

Flaxseed oil capsules contain omega-3 fatty acids, which can minimize redness, irritation, and rashes on your skin. It is a great natural healer used l to keep your skin supple and soft.

Treat Diarrhea and Constipation

Flaxseed oil capsules can treat diarrhea and constipation problems. Various research studies indicate that flax can relieve your bowels. However, with improved bowel movements, it is important to drink water regularly when eating flaxseed oil capsules.

Various research studies conducted on animals have shown significant improvements in this regard. However, human trials have not shown anything vital yet.

Improved Cardiovascular Health

Flaxseed oil capsules are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Research studies have shown that it can reduce the levels of hypertension. It also improves blood circulation in the vessels. It contains high amounts of fiber, antioxidants, proteins, and lignans, which lower the risk of heart disorders too.

People use fish oil capsules to lower their cholesterol levels. Several studies have shown that fish oil can increase the levels of triglycerides. So, instead of using fish oil capsules, you should take flaxseed capsules to combat hypertension, high cholesterol, and other conditions related to cardiovascular health.

Reduce Cancer Cell Growth

As mentioned above, flaxseed oil capsules contain omega-3 fatty acids and recent research has shown that these fatty acids can reduce the growth of cancer cells. Lignans and Phytoestrogens are substances contained in flaxseed oil and these have some incredible anti-cancer effects on the body.

Flaxseed oil offers incredible health effects on your body. It is natural and does not produce any side effects. Flaxseed oil capsules are easy-to-use and more effective.

Promote Gut Health

Flaxseed oil is known for its laxative properties. A study published in 2012 found that flaxseeds helped lower inflammation related to IBS symptoms, including constipation and diarrhea.

The findings came from a study of fifty hemodialysis patients, who were given a daily supplementation of linseed oil that helped relieve constipation.

Supports Weight Loss

Just like flaxseed oil, the capsules can also assist with weight loss. This is because flax contains protein which suppresses your appetite when eaten. When your appetite is suppressed you are less likely to overeat, portion control becomes easier along with weight loss.

Did you know that flaxseeds are low in starch and sugar, and this means they are also low in calories?

Reduce Menopause Symptoms

Flaxseed is a rich source lignan, a type of phytoestrogen, a plant nutrient that is somewhat similar to the female hormone estrogen. This similarity means that lignans may have estrogenic and/or anti-estrogenic effects.

It is widely known that estrogen can relieve the symptoms of menopause, but can also cause the growth of breast cancer cells. Flax too may reduce hot flashes, improve mood and quality of life in postmenopausal women not receiving estrogen therapy.

How to Use

There is no current standard dosing for linseed. It comes in different forms as a seed, oil, capsules, or powder. The different manufactures will provide different doses depending on their product. It is recommended that you follow these guidelines. However, always talk to your doctor before introducing anything new to your diet.

Do not cook with this oil as it can form harmful chemicals when heated.

It can also be applied to the skin in oil form as a moisturizing agent or added to DIY personal care products. it is also added to numerous hair care products.

Potential Side Effects

Flaxseed oil is typically safe for many adults when taken orally and on a short term basis. Large doses can cause diarrhea and changes in the stool. Some people are also allergic to it, although this is uncommon.

A 2010 study, suggested ALA can increase the danger of prostatic adenocarcinoma or promote tumor growth. However, much of this research is speculative and it has been suggested by other researchers that flaxseed can benefit men’s prostate health.

ALA from animal-based foods high in saturated fats could be linked to prostatic adenocarcinoma. Even then, ALA might not be the culprit and other substances in those foods, like the hormones and pesticides in meat, might promote tumor growth.

Always consult your doctor if you have concerns about the consequences of linseed oil on your prostate before adding linseed oil to their diet.

(Hope you appreciate this thought too – totally unrelated…. Linseed oil is very popular here in Australia to maintain the beautiful woods in our guys’ cricket bats – a priority for them )

    1. Hi Sandra, and thank you.

Honestly, I am simply happy that I am able to provide this information to people so it can support them in making the green life choices they have been considering.

Natural products have so many personal benefits, much more than many mainstream alternatives which can actually lead to negative health effects.

I do not play much cricket, but I know oil is effective for looking after wood. I use olive oil in a homemade wood polish and it keeps my wooden furniture in really good condition.

All the best and have a fantastic day.

  2. Excellent post!
Flaxseed oil certainly sounds worth it to have in your diet.
I have not had this consistently in my diet but I look forward to trying this out.
There are so many positive health benefits for consuming this oil but I was particularly interested in the reduction of inflammation possible with flaxseed oil.
I regularly consume olive oil and thought it was one of the best for reducing inflammation in the body.
Thanks for providing some helpful information about this healthy oil!

I will be placing your site in my favorites for future resources and supplements. Thanks for creating such an awesome site.

  4. Hi,

Flax seeds are excellent for your health, I always make sure I have some (also chia seeds). I hadn’t thought of getting flax seed capsules, but they probably contain more benefits, I think. Should you just take one in the morning?

  5. Very informative article. I am impressed.
Thanks for sharing this knowledge. It is a great supplement. Easy to use and very beneficial.
I love natural and green solutions instead of those chemicals recommended by doctors. And those chemicals have bad side effects.
    I will use it.

  6. Hi Catherine,

Really pleased I came across this article as there are so many benefits to Flaxseed Oil Capsules, especially the weight loss and skin health. We are going through an obesity crisis in the UK at the moment, and the government is looking into putting a 12-week program together, but it’s taking forever.

We must exercise and eat healthily, but I believe that using something like Flaxseed Oil Capsules could benefit even more. From what you have said, they produce protein so it would be good to take after exercising to help with recovery of muscles that are torn, etc.

Thank you for sharing such an important article and keep up the amazing work.

    All the best,

    1. Hi Tom,

Yes, I had heard about this 12-week program that the UK is working on. I think something like that is a good start.
Unfortunately, it is looking at the cure (which is needed) but they should also be looking at preventative measures too.
People get obese because of poor food habits and there should be systems in place to help people with this.
I had not thought of taking flax as an aid for exercising, what a fantastic idea!
      Thank you for sharing!

  7. I was not aware of the benefits of flaxseed oil capsules until reading your article, I used to use flaxseed and add it to my oatmeal during the winter. I never realized you could purchase it in capsule form, I love visiting your website and learning something new from you

    1. Hi Jeff,
Adding it to your oatmeal is a great way to get the benefits of flaxseed, I like to do this and add it to smoothies too.
I am pleased that you enjoy learning at my site. I am always here to help.
All the best and have a green day!
