As a qualified teacher, I am passionate about education and the impact it can have on bettering our future. It is down to us individuals to do our research and make small changes to the way we live our lives.

What is all the fuss about LEDs?
LED (Light Emitting Diodes) lights are the newest and most fascinating technological advancement within the industry. LEDs operate in several ways compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. This makes LEDs much more durable than traditional incandescent light bulbs.
There are many advantages to having LED technology instead of incandescent, fluorescents, and compact fluorescent lamps and lighting devices. This includes an exceptionally longer lifespan (60,000 hours), significantly lower energy consumption (90% more efficient), reduced maintenance costs, and better safety.
You certainly hear and skim tons about the advantages related to the energy efficiency of LED light-emitting diodes versus traditional lighting. What are LEDs?

How do they Work?
The electrical current passes through a microchip, this lights' the light sources (LEDs), which in turn creates light. Typically, a mix of red, green, and blue are used to create light. Frequent switching on and off doesn't reduce anticipation like fluorescent lighting.

So, LEDs help us address global climate change by lowering our electricity demand and thus lowering our CO2 emissions. Reducing our electricity usage through LEDs can reduce pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, risks of oil spills, and promote a much healthier environment for all.
While installing LED strip lights in your kitchen won’t stop global warming, if you invest in LEDs, you’re doing your part to slow its progress. The most effective way to reduce global warming is to seek renewable energy sources for your home or workplace.
Safety is probably the foremost often overlooked advantage when it involves LED lighting. LEDs emit almost no forward heat while traditional bulbs like incandescents convert quite 90% of the entire energy wont to power them directly into heat.
That means only 10% of the energy powering incandescent lights are used for light (which also makes them extremely inefficient compared to LEDs). LED lights' also produce very little heat. For somebody like me who lives in a hot climate, this is a fantastic benefit. Before switching to LED lights' we would have to turn all the lights off in the house just to ensure it stays cool.
But even if you live in a cold climate it is important to understand how much energy is wasted when making this heat. Did you know that incandescent bulbs release about 90% of their energy as heat?
Long Life Expectancy...
Not only will they save you money in the long run but the bulbs are known to last longer too. The typical LED lasts 50,000 operating hours to 100,000 operating hours or more. that's 2-4 times as long as most fluorescent, metal halide, and even sodium vapor lights.
Less frequent replacement means two big things: lower maintenance costs in terms of labor and lower costs for replacement parts (because the bulbs simply don't fail for an extended time). This means less shopping, saving you your time and money.
Small Size & Big Performance...
The actual LED device is extremely small. Small power devices are often but a tenth of 1 mm2 while larger power devices can still be as small as an mm2. Because they are so small, they can be used in numerous different ways.
Excellent Color Rendering Index (CRI)...
CRI is a measurement of a light’s ability to reveal the actual color of objects as compared to an ideal light e.g. natural light. High CRI is typically a desirable characteristic. LEDs generally have very high/good ratings when it involves CRI.
LEDs are very small and can be almost any shape. Because of this, they can be used for almost anything, making them more useable that traditional technology. They can be used indoor and outdoor, which can be a variety of different colors and big or small. You name it, LEDs will fit the job.
Most LED bulbs are designed to be a compatible drop-in replacement for incandescent or fluorescent lamps, making switching to LEDs easy. It is as easy as changing a bulb!

Choosing the Right LED Light...
The first thing that the majority of people should consider when buying LEDs is ensuring that you simply get the proper search for your space. to try to do this, both color and bulb type got to be considered. LEDs are available a variety of considering cool light, and this is often reflected by the color scale or Kelvin scale.
Simply put, the lower the Kelvins, the hotter the sunshine. An LED marketed as having a "warm light" or a "soft light" is lower on the Kelvin scale, around 2700 Kelvin, and would match the nice and cozy, yellow color of a standard incandescent bulb.
On the upper end of the size, sitting near 6500 Kelvin would be "daylight" bulbs, which have the cool blue light that we tend to accompany energy-efficient lighting. These are good bulbs for task lighting but aren't typically the color that a lot of people want in their bedrooms or living rooms. LED bulbs that land within the middle of the Kelvin scale, around 3500 Kelvin, are sold as "bright white" bulbs.
It all comes down to your personal preference, just bear this in mind if and when you decide to do some shopping.

How to Change... Safety First!
1. Ensure the power is turned off
2. Take other safety precautions. Use a step ladder if the light is high on the ceiling. Remember to let the bulb cool down before touching it.
3. Remove the bulb from the socket.
4. Put your new LED bulb n the socket.
5. Safely dispose of the old lights' bulb.
