Let me be completely transparent with you, I am not here to pitch or sell anything to you. I am here to reveal and to assist you on your journey of going green!

What is CBD?

For centuries, people have been practicing plant-based treatment for a wide range of ailments. CBD oil is derived from cannabis. Once extracted, it is diluted with a carrier oil like hemp seed oil or coconut oil. It’s a kind of cannabinoid, which are the chemicals naturally found in marijuana plants. There’s some controversy around cannabis products like CBD oil due to recreational marijuana use.

Although it is derived from marijuana plants, CBD doesn’t create a “high” effect or any sort of intoxication which is caused by another cannabinoid, referred to as THC. CBD is one of the more than 60 cannabinoids that can be extracted from cannabis. CBD oil can be obtained in numerous forms, cream, liquid, and even as chewable.

There’s growing awareness about the possible health benefits of CBD oil. It is considered a natural remedy for many health conditions, particularly in easing symptoms of health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and chronic pain.

How is CBD Different from Marijuana?

CBD comes from a different plant. CBD is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). CBD is an important component of medical marijuana, but it is derived directly from the hemp, not the marijuana plant. These plants are in the same family but are different.

While CBD may be a component of marijuana (one of the hundreds), by itself it doesn't cause a “high”.

Is CBD Legal?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced its commitment to scientific research into the medical benefits of marijuana. Although marijuana and CBD derived from marijuana remain against the law, there are limited circumstances where it has been approved as a medical benefit and under those circumstances, the drug will be made publicly available.

However, CBD oil isn’t legal everywhere. Within the USA, CBD oil is legal in some states, but not all. Certain states that have legalized CBD for medical use may require users to use for special licensing. CBD is quickly obtainable in most parts of the USA, though its exact status is undetermined. It’s also important to understand that the FDA hasn’t approved CBD for any medical conditions.

Currently, many people obtain CBD online without a medical cannabis license. The government’s position on CBD is confusing and the debate appears based on whether or not CBD comes from hemp or marijuana. However, there is currently a bipartisan consensus in Congress that could make the hemp crop legal. This would make CBD difficult to ban.

Health Benefits of CBD...

CBD has been sold for helping with a variety of health issues. However, it is best known for the scientific evidence that demonstrates its effectiveness in treating a number of the cruelest childhood epilepsy syndromes, like Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), which usually don’t answer antiseizure medications.

In numerous studies, CBD reduced the number of seizures, and in some cases, it stopped them altogether. Videos of the consequences of CBD on these children and their seizures are readily available on the web, and they are quite striking. Recently the FDA approved cannabis-derived medicine, Epidiolex, for these conditions and it contains CBD.

CBD is also well known for its ability to address anxiety, and for helping patients that suffer from insomnia. Studies suggest that CBD may help with both falling asleep and staying asleep.

CBD may offer an option for treating different types of chronic pain. A study from the European Journal of Pain showed that when CBD is applied to the skin of an animal it could help lower pain and inflammation caused by arthritis.

Another study demonstrated the mechanism by which CBD inhibits inflammatory and neuropathic pain, which are two of the most difficult types of chronic pain to treat. However, the research in this area and the effect on humans is limited. More studies on humans are needed to substantiate the claims of CBD proponents about pain control.

Anxiety and Depression...

Depressive disorders and anxiety have harmful effects on health and well being. Recent research studies show that CBD oil is useful in the treatment of both anxiety and depression.

Researchers think it's going to change the way your brain’s receptors respond to serotonin, a chemical linked to the human psychological state. Receptors are tiny proteins attached to your cells that receive chemical messages and help your cells answer different stimuli.

One study found that a 600mg dose of CBD helped people with social anxiety. Other early studies have shown that CBD may help relieve anxiety by:

  • reducing stress
  • decreasing physiological effects of hysteria, like an increased pulse
  • improving symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • inducing sleep in cases of insomnia

In another study, 60 men received CBD orally before undergoing a simulated public speaking test. The research study found that the participants who received a 300-mg dose of CBD were effective in reducing social anxiety during the test.

In 2018 the FDA approved Epidiolex (oral CBD) as a treatment for two rare forms of epilepsy; Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. It has been approved for patients two years of age and older.

One study from 2016 involved 214 people with epilepsy and was found that participants treated with CBD had 36.5 percent fewer seizures. The participants added oral doses of two to 5mg of CBD per day to their existing anti-epilepsy medications. Over 12 weeks, the participants were monitored and any negative side effects and frequency of seizures were recorded.

Although there was a big reduction in their seizures, severe adverse effects were recorded in 12 percent of the participants.

Researchers are watching a receptor located within the brain to find out about how CBD could help people with neurodegenerative disorders, which are diseases that cause the brain and nerves to deteriorate over time. This receptor is understood as CB1.

Researchers are studying the utilization of CBD oil for treating:

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • stroke

CBD oil can also reduce the inflammation which will make neurodegenerative symptoms worse. More research is required to completely understand the consequences of CBD oil for neurodegenerative diseases.

Pain Relief...

The endocannabinoid system or ECS is a system present in the human body. They are natural molecules that are very similar to the molecules found in cannabis, which bind to the cannabinoid receptors in the nervous system. This system carries out various regulatory functions in the body such as sleep, appetite, immune system response, and pain relief.

The research discovered that the use of cannabis helped these molecules to perform better. CBD oil can help reduce chronic pain by influencing the endocannabinoid receptor activity – thus, interacting with neurotransmitters to reduce inflammation.

Pre-clinical studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health also examining the effects of cannabis in relieving symptoms caused by:

  • arthritis
  • chronic pain
  • MS pain
  • muscle pain
  • spinal cord injuries

Nabiximols (Sativex), an MS drug made up of a mixture of TCH and CBD, is approved within the UK and Canada to treat MS pain. Researchers think the antiinflammatory properties could be what is reducing the pain. Trials of CBD are necessary to work out whether or not it should be used for pain management.

The effects of CBD on receptors within our body can help reduce overall inflammation within the body. Because of this, CBD poses benefits for the treatment of acne. We all know that acne is a very common skin condition affecting over 90% population in the United States. Acne is caused by various factors – including bacteria, genetics, overproduction of sebum, and underlying inflammation.

An excessive amount of sebum can cause acne. A study published within the Journal of Clinical Investigation found that the oil prevented activity in sebaceous glands. Before you think about CBD oil for acne treatment, it’s worth discussing together with your dermatologist. More human studies are needed to gauge the potential benefits of CBD for acne.

CBD oil can likewise be recommended to individuals with Psoriasis. The universities of Nottingham in the UK conducted a research study, in 2007, which demonstrated how cannabinoid compounds work as great inhibitors of Keratinocyte Proliferation – i.e. predominant cells in the epidermis.

It was discovered that the topical use of CBD oil on psoriasis decreases the itching it causes while reducing the level of inflammation. The reduction of inflammation in a chronic disease such as psoriasis has been found to improve the quality of life of these patients.

CBD oil can help reduce cancer-related symptoms as well as adverse effects related to the treatment of cancer. For example, it can reduce or eliminate symptoms like pain, vomiting, nausea, and others that are associated with cancer. Also, its ability to moderate inflammation is promising too.

CBD has the effect of reducing the power of some sorts of tumor cells to breed and grow. Some studies have investigated the role of CBD in preventing neoplastic cell growth, but research remains in its early stages. According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), CBD may help alleviate cancer symptoms and cancer treatment side effects. However, the NCI doesn’t fully endorse any sort of cannabis as a cancer treatment.

Cardiovascular Health...

CBD oil has anxiety and stress-reducing properties and acts as a natural anti-hypertensive agent, offering various benefits for the circulatory and cardiovascular system. It is likewise useful for lowering hypertension and conditions linked to high blood pressure such as metabolic syndrome, heart attack, stroke, and others.

Some research studies have shown that CBD oil can reduce the cell death and inflammation associated with the cardiovascular system due to its powerful stress-reducing and antioxidant properties.

Is CBD Safe?

CBD use does have potential risks. Side effects include dry mouth, diarrhea, reduced appetite, nausea, drowsiness, and fatigue. However, any users often tolerate these side effects believing that the benefit outweighs the risk.

It can thin your blood and has the potential to interact with other medications, for example, blood thinners. It can raise levels of certain other medications in your blood in the same way that fruit juice does. Therefore it is always recommended that you seek appropriate medical advice before taking it.

How to Use CBD Oil...

How CBD should be used depends largely on what it’s getting used for. CBD is extracted from marijuana plants in the form of an oil or powder. These are often mixed into creams or gels or are consumed orally using capsules. The MS drug, Nabiximols is sprayed as a liquid into your mouth. Consult with your doctor before using CBD oil.

The Medical Benefits of CBD Oil: Final Verdict!

Some CBD manufacturers have come under government scrutiny for wild, indefensible claims, such CBD may be a cure-all for cancer. At this time there is not enough evidence to back this up. However, research is underway and many people are hopeful for the outcomes of this research.

There is research to suggest that CBD is effective for treating some symptoms and because of this, it has been approved by the FDA for treating certain conditions. However, it does pose some minor risks and is not legal in all states.

If you are considering using CBD to treat and ailment, consult with your doctor. Doing this will bring further attention to it and its benefits and could have a positive impact on how the use of CBD is viewed in the medical industry.
