First of all, I must congratulate you for taking the time to do your research on this topic of green living. Reducing our overall demand for energy is what we call being energy-efficient. The climate crisis is here and understanding what you can do to become energy efficient is vital.
As a qualified teacher, I am passionate about education and the impact it can have on bettering our future. It is down to us individuals to do our research and make small changes to the way we live our lives.
These small changes are easy to make and can have a big impact on our health, the health of our family and our environment. This website is designed for everyday people looking to make these changes. Here you will learn a legitimate way to go green.

What is Energy Efficiency?
We become more energy-efficient once we use less energy, or switch to more efficient energy sources, like renewable energy sources. So becoming energy-efficient means making changes that end in reduced energy usage (and cost)!
For instance, employing a low-energy light will still provide you with light and is more energy-efficient than a high-energy one. Installing solar to power the electricity in your home will provide you with electricity from a sustainable source.
Climate change describes a change within the average conditions — like temperature and rainfall — during a region over an extended period of your time. For instance, 20,000 years ago, much of the US was covered in glaciers. NASA scientists have observed the Earth’s surface warming, and lots of the warmest years on record have happened within the past 20 years. We now have a hotter climate and fewer glaciers.
Global climate change refers to the typical long-term changes over the whole Earth. These include warming temperatures and changes in precipitation, also because of the effects of Earth’s warming, such as:
- Rising sea levels
- Shrinking mountain glaciers
- Ice melting at a faster rate than usual in Greenland, Antarctica and therefore the Arctic
- Changes in flower and plant blooming times.
Earth’s climate has constantly been changing, even long before human behavior impacted it. However, scientists have observed unusual changes in more recent years. For instance, Earth’s average temperature has been increasing far more quickly than they might expect over the past 150 years.
The Climate Emergency...
Climate crisis is a term describing heating and global climate change, and its devastating consequences. The term has been used to describe the threat of worldwide warming of the earth and to urge aggressive global climate change mitigation.
A BioScience article on January 2020 endorsed by over 11,000 scientists worldwide, stated that the climate crisis has arrived and there is an immense increase in endeavors to conserve our biosphere is required to avoid untold suffering to the planet and humanity.
Does What we Do Matter?
Yes. Human activities create greenhouse gases and this causes the surface of the Earth to warm up. This matters because oceans, land, air, plants, animals, and energy from the Sun all have an impact on each other.
The combined effects of these things give us our global climate. In simple terms, Earth’s climate functions like one big, connected system. Thinking about things as systems means trying to find how every part relates to one another.
NASA collects information about how our planet’s atmosphere, water, and land are changing using Earth-observing satellites. By watching this information, scientists can observe how Earth’s systems work together. This may help us understand how small changes in one place can contribute to greater changes in Earth’s global climate.
Why is Energy Efficiency Important?
If we do not start making changes to the way we produce and use energy, we are in danger of suffering the harmful effects of worldwide climate change, like extreme weather events, rising sea levels and acidification of our oceans.
By identifying ways to be more energy-efficient and source more of our energy from clean, renewable sources, we'll create a more sustainable future for our planet and future generations.
Which Energy Sources are the Simplest for Energy Efficiency?
Choosing renewable sources of energy to power our homes and businesses helps to scale back greenhouse emissions. The great news is that renewable energy sources won't ever run out, we will have access to these clean energy sources for as long as we need! Renewable energy sources include:
- Wind energy
- Solar power
- Geothermal energy
Do I have to Make Big Changes? - No!
Becoming energy-efficient is often achieved through small actions that have a big impact. If we all play our part to live in a more energy-efficient way, together we'll make an enormous difference to the longer term of our planet.
Becoming More Energy-Efficient
Being more energy efficient involves making choices that reduce our overall energy consumption. This will range from small changes, like turning appliances off at the wall. If you want to make bigger changes then you can consider installing insulation in your home. There are numerous simple ways to become more energy-efficient and remember - even the littlest of changes can make a difference!
Becoming energy efficient is straightforward. Read these quick tricks and quickly make your home energy efficient!
- Use eco-friendly light bulbs - swapping your old-fashioned lights is best for the earth and your energy bill.
- Turn off your electronic devices at the wall - even in standby mode, they will still be draining energy, so always remember to 'turn it off'.
- Switch off your computer when not in use because a computer left on all day uses nearly 1000 Kilowatts of electricity per annum.
- Cut back on your long hot showers as heating water is that the second-largest source of household greenhouse emission emissions
- Switch to Green Power - encourage your family to shop for electricity that's generated by renewable energy sources for a serious efficiency boost.
- Make sure your fridge is running efficiently - check the seals so cold air can't escape.
- Fix up your home efficiency - check thermostat settings o ensure you set an inexpensive temperature for different seasons.
- Buy energy-efficient products - many electrical products now accompany an energy star rating, which makes it easy to pick more efficient options.
- Choose a different way to commute to work - rideshare, cycle, walk, public transport.

There are many things you can do to reduce the amount of power you use. Some changes are big and some are small. Energy efficiency is a crucial step in fighting the current climate crisis and the time to act is now. We all must do our part.
